The Runaway Geek Finds a Job While Traveling!

ahhhhh…..what a long time since I’ve updated this site. Have been busy with “Reservist” (for my foreign friends, that means a annual compulsory military service - up till 40 days! - for the citizens of Singapore after their 2 years compulsory stint)

Also, have also started on a job (yikes!) which I specifically wanted a 4 day week. Yeps! I’ve read a book called the Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss and it totally blew my mind away! I’m not at 4hours per week YET, just 4 days…haha.. Check out the website and the blog for lots of interesting ideas! And get the book too while at it!

Recently, I’ve been getting more spiritual, living more in the present and savouring and being grateful to everything I have now. The NOW is truly perfect! The runaway streak in me has been pretty subdued I must say. Where to next? We’ll find out soon enough!

Firstly, my apologies for having “disappeared” for so long! Its been quite a hectic month indeed, filled with travels, investment opportunities and even a contract position for awhile. Also firming up my plans for 2008.

Today, The Runaway Geek (TRG) goes into a more philanthropic mood, where he explores Travel Jobs which don’t really pay! Well, not monetarily at least TRG has in fact did some English Teaching over in Sri Lanka and this is one of the fun and heartwarming sights he saw there after teaching them some english songs…

I guess one of the first questions is, why not just have a holiday and forget about the work! Afterall, isn’t a holiday about just relaxing and having fun? Imagine…the stress, expectations and committement while having to balance both working and traveling!

Truth is, there are numerous reasons why one should attempt to balance both!

6) Extend your holiday longer as you don’t have to rush back to a job!

7) Relax even while you work as these jobs can be less stressful (no guarantee though!)

8 ) Create more and deeper friendships within the local community

9) You can still save money while traveling!

10) You can take your time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city/country during your off days, weekends etc
